Christian Burial Mass for Stanley Edward D'Orazio

DOWNEY-A Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, March 20, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church for Stanley Edward D'Orazio, a long-time Downey resident who was handicapped all his life.

He was born Nov. 17, 1953 in Lynwood to parents Edward and Maria D'Orazio, and died Sunday, March 24 at the age of 48.

A graduate of St. John Bosco High School, he was a parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and a member of the Booster Club.

He earned his bachelor's in political science from Loyola Marymount University and was an avid reader. A trivia buff, he liked to watch game shows and sports on television. He especially liked football with the UCLA Bruins and the Rams.

Interment was at All Souls Cemetery in Long Beach.

He is survived by his parents, sister Rita and his brother, also named Edward. They request that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to the Hospice of Interhealth, 10742 Valley View St., Whittier, CA Services were by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.


Funeral in desert for Dr. George Doroshow

PALM SPRINGS-Funeral services were held March 24 at Temple Sinai for Dr. George Doroshow, a pediatrician who lived in Downey and Los Angeles for 40 years before spending the last 25 years in Palm Springs.

He was 93, born April 12, 1908 in St. Paul, Minnesota, and died March 19, 2002 in Rancho Mirage.

He was a graduate of the University of Minnesota, and was a former clinical professor of pediatrics at USC. He founded the neo-natal ICU at St. Francis Medical Center, and was a retired Army Lt. Col in WWII. He was also past president and early founder of Temple Sinai in Palm Desert.

Survivors include his wife, Tobette; daughters Fran (Dr. Mark) Kaufman of Indian Wells, Barbara (Fred) Gaines of Los Angeles; a son, Dr. James (Dr. Robin) Doroshow of Arcadia; grandchildren Joseph (Janet), Elaine, Marcie, Kaufman, Jeremy Gaines, Amanda (Dr. Jeremy) Ciporin, and Debbie Doroshow; and two great-grandchildren, Joshua and Caroline Kaufman.

Burial followed at the Home of Peace, Los Angeles. Memorials are suggested to the Temple Sinai Doroshow Education Fund.


Services held for Virginia Mardigian

DOWNEY-Services were held March 26 at the Miller-Mies Mortuary Chapel for Virginia Mardigian, a resident of Downey for more than 70 years, and a homemaker.

She was 92, born in Los Angeles, and died March 20, 2002 at her home.

She was a member of the United Armenian Church of North Hollywood.

Survivors include her son, Bob Mardigian; a daughter, Cathy Cholakian (Pete) of Fresno; and three grandchildren.

The Rev. Ron Tovmassian officiated.

Burial followed at Belmont Cemetery in Fresno with officiant Rev. Ara Guekguezian.
