Yes on Measure L
To the Editor:
As a Captain with the Downey Fire Department, I am urging the citizens of Downey to vote YES on Measure L. I have served as a company officer on the Engine Company and the Truck Company during the 4th of July Holiday. I have also patrolled our streets with our police department during the holiday season. While I agree the majority of injuries and property damage are caused by the illegal fireworks, enforcement of our present laws are made more difficult at best with the inclusion of Safe and Sane fireworks. Elimination of Safe and Sane fireworks WILL make enforcement of our laws against illegal fireworks more efficient, therefore reducing the life safety risk and conserving property in the City of Downey. Please vote YES on Measure L. It is the first step in protecting the life safety and protecting property for citizens of Downey.

A Downey arcade?
To the Editor:
I am writing about the lack of fun places to go. I think there should be an arcade in Downey because many of my friends and I don't have a place to go on the weekends and it gets boring around the house.
I think there are too many boring places in Downey. There should be an arcade at a plaza or a mall at least around Downey. It should be safe enough for kids to go after school. I like arcades and the closest one I know about is in the Montebello Town Center, which is two cities away. I think many people would go and kids could play their favorite games.
