Services are set today for Leonora Aranda, 78

DOWNEY-Services for Leonora Aranda will be held today, Jan. 25, at 10 a.m. in St. Raymond's Catholic Church. Father Tom O'Hanlon will officiate.

She was born in Texas and died Jan. 1 at the age of 78.

A resident of Huntington Park for 32 years, she was self-employed and a member of St. Raymond's.

She is survived by sister Connie Cueto and seven nephews and nieces.

Arrangements were handled by Miller-Mies Mortuary.


Family, friends grieve for Olive Merle Noble

DOWNEY-Services were held at 11 a.m. yesterday, Jan. 24, for Olive Merle Noble who died at Southland Home at the age of 88.

She was born in Huntsville, Canada and died Jan. 20. A homemaker, she had resided in Downey for 76 years.

Burial was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood Hills.

She is survived by daughters Gail Higgins of Downey and Carol Jekel of Kennwick, Washington.

Arrangements were by Miller-Mies Mortuary.


Saturday remembrance for Ruth E. Coday, 86

DOWNEY-Services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow, Jan. 26, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness in Downey for Ruth E. Coday, who was born in Loomis, Nebraska 86 years ago and died of congestive heart failure Jan. 19 at Downey Regional Medical Center.

She was a Downey resident for 52 years, and she lived in California for 62 years all told. She was self-employed, and a housewife. She was a member of Jehovah's Witness.

She is survived by son Darrell and daughter Darlene (Daniel).

Officiating at the services, arranged by Miller-Mies Mortuary, will be Minister Lorin Myrick.


Graveside services today for William T. Hollis

DOWNEY-Graveside services will be held at noon today, Jan. 25, at the Downey District Cemetery for William T. Hollis who died Jan. 12 at the age of 66.

Known to all his friends as Tom, he was born in Texas on May 15, 1935 to parents Robert and Margaret, and worked for Smith-Emery Co. as a deputy building inspector for more than 20 years.

He enjoyed gardening and making model airplanes. An avid reader, he particularly enjoyed the history of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Carole, sons Michael and William ("Vince"), sister Starr, and granddaughter Rylee.

Services are by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.


Memorial service for Michael Ward tomorrow

DOWNEY-A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Wilshire Presbyterian Church, 300 Western Ave., Los Angeles, for Michael Ward, a 24-year Downey resident and a Chevrolet and Crews Evaporator and Dryer welder/fabricator for 10 years.

He was 47, born in Flint, Michigan May 12, 1954, and died Jan. 19, 2002 due to complications of diabetes.

He was a licensed private pilot and a certified scuba diver. He had a passion for model building and woodworking. His skill as an artist was expressed through his many sketches and watercolors. He was an accomplished mechanic and restored two complete 1965 Mustangs.

Survivors include his wife Grace; his pets Molly and Beeper; and his extended family.

Donations may be made in his memory to the Living Free Animal Sanctuary, P.O. Box 5, Mountain Center, CA


Ruth E. Boege mourned by friends, family

ARROYO GRANDE-Ruth Ellen Cecelia Gragg Boege, a former longtime Downey resident, died Jan. 8, 2002 in Arroyo Grande.

She was born Sept. 29, 1924 in Anaheim. She met Roland Boege when they were working in Anaheim, was married Aug. 14, 1948 and moved to Downey. She raised five children and was involved in many youth activities. She also volunteered many hours to the Women's Guild at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, and contributed many volunteer hours as well helping new mothers through the La Leche League. She was PTA president at Roger Casier School.

She retired to Arroyo Grande in 1984. Her father was raised in the San Luis Obispo area and had met her mother there.

Survivors include her husband, Roland of Arroyo Grande; daughter Tina and son-in-law Paul Collins of Santa Ynez; son David Boege of Arroyo Grande; son Eric and daughter-in-law Kim Viana Boege of Atascadero; son Gerald Boege of San Francisco; son Fred Boege of Los Angeles; grandchildren Carrie Collins of Los Angeles; Sierra Collins of Salina, Kansas; Joseph Collins of Santa Ynez; and Sachi and Emily Boege of Atascadero.
