Family, friends mourn Frances Jane Gerber

DOWNEY-Private services were held for Frances Jane Gerber, a resident of Downey for 27 years and a homemaker.

She was born Sept. 16, 1925 in Friday Harbor, Washington, to parents John C. Carnes and Ethel Irene Robeson Carnes.

Survivors include her husband, Grant Gerber of Downey; daughters Jayne Greer of Oceanside, Tally West of Anaheim; son Michael Geer of Stanton Island, New York; brother Bernard Carnes of Seattle, Washington; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Burial was at Fairview Cemetery in Mill City, Oregon. Arrangements were by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.


Memorial services for June Mary Klopp

DOWNEY-Memorial services were held Jan. 9 at St. Raymond's Catholic Church for June Mary Klopp, who was devoted to public service.

She was born in Sydney, Australia on May 14, 1920, to parents Robert and Mary Ellen Armstrong. She taught school in Sydney. She met a soldier, John Klopp, during World War II, and they married and moved to Downey.

She enjoyed painting, the theater and her garden. She was involved in numerous church activities, and was active in senior citizens groups, also donating time to the Boy Scouts.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, John, Paul, Peter and Anita, Lisa and Denise, Antoinette, Michelle and Richard; nine grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

Burial followed beside her husband of 55 years at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside. Arrangements were by Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.


Private services for Dorothy Ellen Reed

DOWNEY-Private services were held for Dorothy Ellen Reed, a longtime resident of Downey, who died on Dec. 25, 2001, in Fallon, Nevada, where she lived the past five years.

Dorothy had been an active member of the Downey Christian Science Church, serving faithfully as its Reading Room librarian for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, and her daughter, Martha Lynn Jeffries.

Survivors include a son-in-law, Dan Jeffries; and grandsons David and Matthew Jeffries, all of Whittier.


Services held for Mark Kimball Lang

DOWNEY-Services were held Jan. 7 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Downey III Ward, for Mark Kimball Lang, a former Downey resident who died Jan. 2.

He was 45, and a 1974 graduate of Downey High School.

He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Scott Lang.

Survivors include his father and mother, James and Mary Lou Lang of Downey; a brother, Jon K. Lang (Lisa) of Downey; two sisters, Alyson L. Tyner (Richard) of Oceanside, Kirstin Wood (David) of Hesperia; four nephews, five nieces, and a large extended family.

Bishop Marvin Johnson of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Downey III Ward officiated. Burial followed at Rose Hills in Whittier.

Arrangements were by Allen-English & Estrada Mortuary of Bell Gardens.
